Paper Weight 

Paper weight can be measured by the weight of a 500-sheet ream of 17" x 22" bond paper. The size of the basis ream, for each type of paper, is different, which results in majorly different weights. For example, a ream of 20#, 8.5 × 11 bond paper weighs 5 lbs. because it has been cut from a larger sheet into four portions. And just so you know, 80# means 80 lbs. per basis ream of 500 sheets.

Here are some common standards:

• 20-24# - Standard weight paper

• 24-28# - For posters

• 80-100# - Satndard business cards
